ADDY Award Winning Work!

It's No Heisman, But...

I've got a few accomplishments under my belt, both as a student and as a professional. Read the Cliffs Notes version below, or cut to the chase + download my resume instead.

2006 District 10 ADDY Awards

This very site you're looking at right now received a coveted Silver Student ADDY Award at the 2006 District 10 ADDY Awards. Not too shabby considering I've never taken a formal advertising or design class during college.

2006 Oklahoma City ADDY Awards

An elite group of students can say they've won student ADDY Awards, but how many can say they've won more professional ADDY Awards with their work? In February of 2006, I received two ADDY Awards, two Silver Merit and one Bronze Merit award from the Oklahoma City Advertising Club for my Orange Is Power campaign.

In addition, my personal website won a Student Silver Merit award, while this website received both the Student ADDY Award as well as the "JUDGES AWARD for Student You Need to Hire". That's a pretty big endorsement! All Silver and ADDY Award winning pieces are currently in competition at the District level.

2006 Creative Lightning Awards

In addition to a Best of Show award, my work was awarded three gold awards, three silver awards and a bronze award at the 2006 Creative Lightning Awards. Hosted by the OSU Advertising Club, the Creative Lightning Awards give OSU students the opportunity to have their work critiqued by advertising professionals from around the state.

House of Mouse

During the spring semester of 2003, I was chosen from more than 200 colleges and universities to participate in the Walt Disney World College Program. During my internship on Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom, I learned the essential keys to keeping guests happy at Walt Disney World: remarkable customer service. On days off, I would attend weekly organizational leadership and human resource management seminars taught by Disney managers.

Orange Peel Marketing Director

A huge responsibility was given to me when I was chosen as the Marketing Director for the tenth year of a half-million dollar annual concert on the OSU campus. Utilizing very non-traditional forms of marketing and advertising, we not only sold close to 10,000 tickets to the show but raised $2,000 for the Hurricane Katrina relief fund and additional funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

American Advertising Federation Competition Team

The AAF National Student Advertising Competition provides real work experience in creating a successful advertising campaign. I worked on the production team, charged along with two others to design and produce the 32-page campaign plans booklet. I also weighed in on many of the creative team meetings.

Orange Is Power Campaign

It's not often that the student employee is given the task (and enormous responsibility) of managing a marketing plan... let alone a regional campaign. Utilizing outdoor + print advertising and the Internet while promoting evangelism with out most loyal customers, Orange Is Power celebrates the emotional effect the color orange has on students and alumni of Oklahoma State University, while persuading them to choose the Student Store for their orange apparel. This campaign is still active.

Presidential Experience

During my five-year stint on campus, I became involved with many clubs on campus like OSU's AdClub and the marketing club. However, I took special interest in two clubs, being elected President of both.

While President of the largest residence hall in Oklahoma, Willham Complex, I helped to return a sense of pride and reason for being to the hall government during my one semester term. Through better organization and more interesting hall programs, I tripled the Hall Government attendance. We were also awarded a National Residence Halls "Hall of the Month" award twice and were presented OSU's Homecoming "Sweepstakes" award.

Takin' Care of Business, OSU's freshman and sophomore business club celebrated triple membership during my one-year presidency.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit

In addition to attending class full-time, participating and leading numerous campus groups and working in the Student Union marketing department part-time, I also found the time to run my freelance graphic design business at night (and on weekends... and holidays...). I assist with graphic design, media placement and general promotional ideas for everything from a medical billings company's website to a luxury dog resort in Worcester, England.
